Synopsis

Scribbled in secret after endless days, sleepless nights and missed weekends, Adam Kay's This is Going to Hurt provides a no-holds-barred account of his time on the NHS front line. Hilarious, horrifying and heartbreaking, this diary is everything you wanted to know - and more than a few things you didn't - about life on and off the hospital ward.

This edition includes extra diary entries and a new afterword by the author.

Review

"Real" books have never appealed to me. I read to escape reality not read someone else's hell on earth, so to speak.
But the last couple of paperbacks I've read really sucked me in.
Granted the 1st  was a death row/serial killer book and then we have this one.
I think a friend (who conveniently works for the NHS) recommended it and it's been stuck on my bookshelf since.
Mainly due to lack of reading time.
After a stagnant couple of months I was browsing the small section of my shelf, picked up a book and then spotted this one tucked in the back and gravitated towards it.

Sure we all bitch and moan about the NHS... okay I moan about receptionists... but I have so much respect for them and the police and firefighters.

When family members have needed to go to the hospital and an ambulance has come to the house, provided it's not life and death, i'll tell them to get gone and I'd take them. offer them a cuppa. someone else may need them more than this situation. TBH i'm a shit for going to the drs! My shoulder pain is nothing compared to someone else that may need that slot.

And although we think we know what dr's go through.... we have no idea and this book REALLY highlighted their sacrifice.

It's got it's highs and lows and tbh it's a rollercoaster one entry to the next.

If you know someone who's always moaning about the BHS gift them this book this Christmas season. Let them know that while they're relaxing with family this Christmas... thousands of people will be working on the front line! I'm sure they'd love to be in a onesie with cold turkey sandwich and cuppa on their lap.... sending themselves into a food coma.
